The meal is much smaller now, than it had been in years before,

The family that has gathered, knows that there are many more.

Their faces and their presence, will not be brought this day,

It’s a far and silent honor, to the lives at grace we pray.

As we give thanks and gather, no matter what the size,

The thanks that I give this day, reach farther than realized.

It reaches out to all of those, who have lost one of their own,

A ever present reminder, to apply that love that’s shown.

To all of those who have met impossible, and pushed it to the side,

To those who heal us all, who cannot alone push back the tide.

It reaches across the Earth itself, in humanity’s common plight,

A prayer spoken in every tongue, will be held in hearts tonight.

The meal will be much smaller now, than it had been in years before,

The family that has gathered, knows that there are many more.

Although we gather fewer now, in the thanks in which we pray,

It is the growing reach of thanks itself, that fills this holiday.
